Abstract

Emotional dysregulation is a significant mental health issue, and the combination of pastoral counseling and Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT) offers a promising approach to address this problem by integrating spiritual support with psychological skills. This study uses a literature review method to explore the effectiveness of combining these two approaches in managing emotions. Pastoral counseling provides profound spiritual support, while MBT enhances skills in understanding and managing emotions. The findings of this research indicate that combining pastoral counseling and MBT offers a holistic and integrated approach to tackling emotional dysregulation. Pastoral counseling adds an important spiritual dimension and deep meaning, while MBT improves skills in emotion management and mental process understanding. This combination helps individuals develop more effective coping strategies and improve interpersonal relationships. The results show that integrating pastoral counseling with MBT holds the potential to provide comprehensive support in addressing emotional dysregulation. Pastoral counseling enriches the therapeutic experience with spiritual insights, while MBT provides practical skills for managing emotions. This integration enhances the therapy experience and allows individuals to achieve better emotional balance. Researchers criticize that a focus on spirituality may divert attention from more fundamental psychological issues, making it important to ensure balance in applying this method. The study suggests the need for further research to test the effectiveness of this combination in various clinical and community contexts and to identify best practices for its implementation.
